 Expansion Project Phase II

Summer 2021

The team is back at it, working hard on another beautiful addition to the Memorial.  This phase of the project will include another beautiful statue, a new area dedicated to those on Flight 93 in Shanksville and a very special addition coming straight to us from the National 9/11 Memorial in New York. This phase of the expansion will be adding 3 beautiful new bronze statues that include a tribute to fallen female officer Moira Smith.  Please check back often for updates.

May 2019

Over the last several months, the Board has been working with community members, local design firms and national artists to expand the memorial site.  The planned expansion includes replicas of the Twin Towers and Pentagon at a 1/100th scale, limited edition bronze statue of first responders and story boards that will serve to educate future generations of the largest terrorist attack in human history.  Both the Twin Towers and the Pentagon will have the names escribed in stone of all the first responders and military personnel who died in the attacks.  The thoughtful design expansion incorporates the position of the sun to cast light on bronze statue at the exact time of the first attack (8:45am) and a shadow on the Pentagon at the exact site of impact.  The expansion will also include a water feature to represent design elements from the National 9-11 Memorial in New York City.

“We are honored to be working with such a committed group of citizens to realize this Memorial expansion.  We believe that this memorial will beautifully represent America’s spirit of bravery, honor and service.  As a board, we work to ensure that our community will never forget the events of 9-11 and with this expansion, we will continue to remember, honor and educate.” said Mr. Jerry Cook, chair of the Board of Directors.

When the expansion is complete, the memorial will be fully ADA compliant allowing more people to visit the memorial.  All costs associated with the expansion are being paid for through private donations.

The 9-11 Memorial site, located in Clovis, CA was spearheaded by former Pelco CEO David McDonald, as a permanent monument to honor and remember the 2,977 people killed during the most horrific terrorist attack in history.  The site of the memorial was gifted to The California 9-11 Memorial to ensure that the legacy started by Mr. McDonald, and the promise to never forget, be realized for generations to come.

September 9,  2019

The Memorial Expansion is nearing completion of the first phase.  Dozens of local crews have worked around the clock dedicated to making this happen in time for our annual remembrance event.  We had our ribbon cutting and unveiling of some of these beautiful new features on September 9th at 4:00 pm.

What began as a dream and a drawing is now a reality. We are so happy to have this beautiful place for our community to come out to honor all those we lost that tragic day in 2001
